THE STORY:
When Boris Johnson used The Clash's "London Calling" for his mayoral campaign in 2007 something was wrong.2016 The Brexit vote saw the increase in violence and hatred towards immigrants. Right wing press, politicians and "two bob" thugs spread hatred and distrust. There was an increase in old punks siding with the "far right".
Richard David acted, Clash against the right was born. I was one of the early members. Robin Banks ( of stay free fame) and Brenda Siegleman ( who worked and toured with the band) joined the team and the numbers grew. Musicians and fans united to take back our band from the "right".
The group grew from strength to strength globally.
A documentary film and radio show rose and things gathered pace. Richard and the moderators vigilantly keeping onside of Facebook and trolls trying to infiltrate the group.
On October 16th 2021 an all day gig took place under the Westway in the shadow of Grenfell. After an amazing evening music from a superb line up of artists Band of the Underhand took to the stage around 10.30pm.
Meanwhile work on the film continued in England, Ireland and the USA throughout the rest of the year.
17th of April 2024 was the London premier of "On Resistance Street". We had our song "Charlottesville" used in the film along with a brand new song we had written after the Westway gig "No justice Just Us". We were so proud of this honour.
A gig was organised to be held prior to the film. We were one of the bands chosen to play. I really was an honour. We wanted to do something to mark the day not to promote ourselves but the CATR and on Resistance Street.
We decided to play mostly covers, a special set for a special day. We decided to play an intimate acoustic set and along with Caleb (Petes son) on violin we went into West Wicked Studio and recorded the whole set live. We then did a run of 100 CDs to give away exclusively at the gig.
We were nervous about covering Straight to hell but both Richard and Robin gave our version the thumbs up saying it was "The best Clash cover they had ever heard".
The gig was great with the crowd joining in on both 'Bella Ciao' and 'Straight to Hell'.
The CDs went like hot cakes as can imagine.
So we have decided to offer a chance for you to download it now for FREE when you sign up to our mailing list and keep up to date with everything Underhand.
PEACE
